Little Scientists: Exploring Birds, Nests & New Life

At BabeeShark Home Daycare & Preschool, we believe everyday moments can become meaningful learning experiences. Curiosity often begins with the simple discoveries children make around them, and today our backyard became a wonderful place for exploration and learning.

During outdoor play, the children noticed a bird’s nest hidden in one of the trees. This exciting discovery sparked questions, conversations, and curiosity as we learned about how birds create their homes and care for their babies.

Together, we explored how birds carefully build nests using materials such as twigs, grass, and leaves. The children learned that nests provide a safe and comfortable place for birds to lay their eggs and protect their babies as they grow.

One of the most exciting parts of our discussion was learning about the life cycle of birds. The children discovered how baby birds grow inside eggs and eventually hatch when they are ready to enter the world.

To extend our learning, the children created a hands on bird nest craft with eggs. This creative activity connected science and art while supporting imagination, fine motor skills, problem solving, and a deeper understanding of what they observed.

Experiences like this are an important part of our early childhood learning approach at BabeeShark. Through observation, creativity, hands on activities, and guided discovery, children develop curiosity, confidence, critical thinking skills, and a lifelong love for learning.

Sometimes the most meaningful lessons begin with a simple discovery.
